About Brian Barwig

First, thanks for checking out the site. Whether you’re a first time random who stumbled upon the page or a long time reader, I truly appreciated you coming by. Hopefully you are learning some good stuff about SEO and Digital Marketing while you’re here. If not, drop me a line and tell me to up my game, provide more value and do some RCS.

Moving on a little about me. I’m Brian, a self taught Local SEO and Digital Marketer. I created this blog in 2014 in the efforts to try and spread some of my digital marketing knowledge, though mostly because I’m a boss with Local SEO, I think people should know that and to hopefully aid others in their SEO efforts.

I aim to have this blog cover a variety of topics from the broad digital marketing realm to SEO, Social, online businesses and probably some rants. Ideally, I’d like to blog a few times per month but I have a family, full time job and other stuff going on. I’m only going to blog when I have something which needs to be said. You may not want to hear it, the topic may be boring and the language may be foul but hey, at least it’ll be entertaining.

PROFESSIONAL

I’m sure you’re thinking, “Who is this guy? Why is he blogging about SEO and Digital Marketing? Why should I trust what he is saying?” All valid questions.

I fell into the SEO industry by accident in 2005 and never really looked back. In 2007, my business partner and I started an online business built around SEO and built it from scratch in his basement. In 2013 we had $1 million in revenue. The business is an online self storage comparison engine (think of it as the Hotels.com for the self storage industry) called Self Storage Finders. At the beginning of 2014, I decided I needed a change from running the SSF SEO ship and went the corporate route. I was then an SEO Manager for a Fortune 100 company in the Chicagoland area.

After that, I worked with an awesome team at AttorneySync, a small boutique local SEO agency focusing on law firms. Presently, I am working for another small Local SEO agency, Sterling Sky, as a Local Search Analyst and Account Manager.

I’ve had a few other side projects – a Chicago Blackhawks blog and a HVAC business venture – which also aided me in website development, content creation and Digital Marketing. I’ve worked with companies on a consulting basis for several years as well. Check my Services Page if you like what you are hearing and want to see how I can move the needle for your company!

PERSONAL

Born and raised in the burbs of Chicago. Then Moved to Minnesota for college where I graduated with a BA in Marketing in 2003. Came back to Chicago for a bit and then headed to New York to do door to door sales. You read that right…door to door sales in NY. I was young, ambitious and a bit naive. It was awesome, a truly great experience I would go back and do again.

After New York, I packed up and moved to Kansas City to live with my long time girlfriend whom I would later marry. We lived in KC for 9 years, began building our family and then decided to move back to the Chicago burbs near we both grew up. We’ve been back for about 6 years at this point.

I’m a ridiculously huge Blackhawks fan (Not bandwagon either. I’ve been supporting the Indian Head since about 1989) and support the Michigan Wolverines as if I went to school in Ann Arbor for 8 years. I enjoy craft beers, whiskey and smoking meat.
